A transition into any new environment can be challenging and cause anxiety for any child or adult. Our staff are trained to be alert and aware of your child's reaction to their new environment and will be sensitive to their feelings. After enrolling your child at Watch Me Grow, you and your child may visit and be introduced to his/her new teacher. This will give you an opportunity to get to know the teachers and staff involved in the care of your child prior to their first day.
Separation anxiety is common and your child may resist being left at Watch Me Grow in the beginning. However, after several days, drop-off becomes easier. We suggest that after you do the necessary signing in and walking your child to class, simply give your child a hug and assure them that you will return for them that afternoon to pick them up -- Then leave. Prolonging your departure could cause more anxiety for your child. We encourage parents to call anytime during the day to see how their child is adjusting. If needed, the director will be happy to provide additional suggestions for a smooth and enjoyable transition into the school environment for both you and your child.
This handbook will help you understand our center goals and policies. Our guidelines are all designed to make sure that each child receives the best education possible. Please look over the information given, so that you are familiar with our operation and guidelines. Also included with this packet is the paperwork for your child's file, health statement, registration form, emergency medical consent form, permission to transport, food program forms, consent to release information and Nevada Licensing form. Please complete these forms in their entirety and return them promptly.
During Parent Orientation you will be taken on a tour to meet your child's teachers and get a general idea of a day at our Watch Me Grow. You may also schedule a time to observe in the classroom. Please let us know of any area in which we can be of particular assistance to you. We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child and providing a rich learning environment where all our children develop to their fullest potential.
To provide care for children in a loving, comfortable, happy and secure environment.
Our aim is to provide a safe, pleasant place with warm, loving care where a child feels secure and happy and can learn to work and play with others. we want to help the children express themselves and learn social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills that will prepare them for the future.
The program is designed to meet the developmental needs of young children. It provides experiences that enrich and enhance each child's cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical, and creative development. Within the center's daily schedule, each child has opportunities to create, explore the environment, learn problem solving and personal interaction skills, and learn concepts through first-hand experiences. Children develop a positive self-concept through a balance of self-and teacher-facilitated activities. Opportunities for solitary play as well as group activities are provided. Staff serve as positive role models and provide care that is supportive, nurturing, warm and responsive to each child's individual needs. The adult's responsibility in a developmental program is to assist the child in growing to his or her fullest potential by recognizing each stage of development and fashioning a curriculum that will nurture and facilitate growth during that state.
We respect parents as the primary and most important provider of care and nurturing. We believe parents and teachers are partners in children's care and education.

The purpose of the informal tour is to answer any questions parents might have concerning our policies and procedures and make parents aware of the child(ren)s average day. After the tour, if parents are interested in enrolling, the parent would be provided with a copy of the parent's handbook and any forms necessary to enroll their child(ren) in the center. All children shall be considered continuously enrolled from the time of enrollment until they are formally withdrawn. Registration forms and written proof of immunizations must be completed and returned prior to the child's first day of placement. It is the responsibility of the parent to keep Watch Me Grow informed of immunization the child receives throughout enrollment. If the child cannot receive any or all immunizations, parents must furnish us with a statement from a physician stating the reason. Parents should inform WMG of any special problems past or present, which may assist in caring for the child. At the time of the orientation, management will review program policies, procedures, emergency plans, daily schedules and curriculum.

A 2-week notice is required for withdrawal. Tuition must be paid during this 2-week withdrawal period whether or not the child attends. If tuition is delinquent and the child is not allowed to return, the parent and/or guardian will still be charged the delinquent balance in addition to the 2-week tuition, as is required to withdraw.
If the account balances are not cleared within 10 days of the child's last day of attendance the account will be submitted to collections. Once the account goes to collections, the parent and/or guardian will be responsible for any collection and legal fees that accrue in the time that it takes to collect the debt.
Weekly Tuition Fees
Parents are responsible for their child's tuition at WMG. Tuition is not based upon attendance but rather on a set weekly fee that is due regardless of the attendance habits of the child enrolled. Tuition is set by the contract that is signed upon enrolling the child in the program. The contracts may be adjusted from time to time as needed with a two week notice of intent to change services. Schedule changes will be at the discretion of management based on space availability. The weekly set fees remain the same; no invoices are given to parents as reminders of tuition fees. Families may incur additional fees such as in the case of School aged children who need additional services due to an irregularity in the school schedule or parent late pick up, etc. The additional fees will l be added to the regular weekly tuition rates.
Payment policies and procedures
Tuition is due on the first day of the child's week. A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed if tuition is not paid by the morning of the third day of the child's week. Tuition delinquent more than 4 days will result in an automatic withdrawal and the child will not be allowed to return until payment is made. All days reserved at Watch Me Grow are paid whether your child attends or does not attend. The withdraw policy states that (A 2-week notice is required for withdrawal. Tuition must be paid during the 2-week withdrawal period whether or not the child attends.) If tuition is delinquent and the child is not allowed to return, the parent and/or guardian will still be charged the delinquent balance in addition to the 2-week tuition, as required to withdraw. If account balances are not cleared within 10 days of the child's last day of attendance, the account will be submitted to collections. Once the account goes to collections, the parent and/or guardian will be responsible for any collection and legal fees that accrue in the time that it takes to collect the debt. WMG accepts the following methods of payment: Tuition Express, cash, debit, money order, cashier's check, or credit card (there is a $10.00 convenience fee applied to all credit transactions).
State Child Subsidy Clients
WMG is authorized to receive payments from Urban League childcare assistance program.
Subsidy clients may have a daily co-payment that is set by the childcare contract. WMG requires that all co-payments are paid on the first day of the child's scheduled week. All PAYMENT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES for self-billed clients will apply to subsidy clients. It is the responsibility of each parent to ensure that they have no balance when the previous months fees and co-payments are posted on their account. Failure to make co-payment amounts will void the contract with the subsidy program whether the parent continues to have the child enrolled at WMG or moves onto another center.
Receipts and Statements
Receipts are available upon request. Annual statements for tax and accounting purposes are available upon request.
Late Pick-Up Fee
There will be a $5.00 fee added (per child) for the first minute and $1.00 per minute for every additional minute if pick-up takes place after closing. This fee is non-negotiable and is the responsibility of all parents. Parents, or those picking the child up, are required to call ahead if they feel they are going to be more than 5 minutes late. An attempt will be made to contact individuals on the emergency contact list after children have been left 15 minutes- past closing. Children left at the center longer than 60 minutes past closing will be considered abandoned and Child Protective Services will be informed.
Refunds
We do not issue refunds. In the event you have over-paid, the credit will be applied to your next week's tuition. In the event you have a balance after your child's last day, all applicable fees including the two weeks' notice required will be subtracted from any balance prior to a final refund being issued. Checks for this are cut monthly and will be mailed according to our monthly bill payment schedule.
Vacations, Absences, and Holiday's
Vacations and Absences will be charged at the scheduled number of days the child is enrolled per week. All days reserved are paid whether the child attends or does not attend. Children are eligible for one week of vacation the first year following 6 months of continuous enrollment. A week is defined as the scheduled number of days the child is enrolled. After one year of continuous enrollment and the annual registration fee is paid, the child is allowed an additional vacation week (2 vacation weeks per enrollment year). Vacation days may not be carried over to the next enrollment year. A 2-week written notice is required prior to the vacation week being taken. WMG observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. If holiday falls on Saturday, the holiday is observed on the previous Friday. If holiday falls on Sunday, the holiday is observed on the following Monday. All holidays will be charged at the regular rate. No fee adjustment is made for designated holidays.
Transportation
Parents are responsible for their child's transportation to the center and for arranging their own carpools. WMG will provide transportation for school aged children to and from schools in our immediate community. Watch Me Grow will determined the approved schools annually based upon the families' needs. WMG will provide transportation for field trips as the opportunities arise. Parents will be notified about field trips in advance and in writing. All Watch Me Grow drivers will follow the WMG transportation policy. The center complies with all State laws that pertain to motor vehicles as well as transporting children who are enrolled in a licensed child care center. Parents will need to fill out the "Permission to Transport" form, which provides written parental permission for field trips and activities outside of the facility.
Parking Policy
We strongly urge you to turn your car off and lock it when you come into drop-off or pick-up your child(ren). WMG is not responsible for items lost or stolen from cars or from the parking lot or facility. When entering the building for pick up or drop off, DO NOT leave any children unattended in the vehicle.
Drop-Off
The children are not allowed to come into WMG alone, parents must accompany their child(ren) into their classroom every morning and clock their child(ren) in immediately dropping their child(ren) off in the appropriate room. Children will not be permitted in the building prior to opening hours. New families will be given a code to use to clock each child in. The clock in/out system is located at the front desk. We require that all children have direct contact with a person upon arrival for early detection of apparent illness, communicable disease, or unusual condition or behavior which may adversely affect the child or the group. If any of these things are determined, the child will not be admitted and will return home with the parent.
Pick-Up
All children must be picked up and clocked out by an adult who is approved in writing by the parent and the center. All children must be clocked out before being picked up from their classroom. Anyone, including all parents, who are allowed to pick the child up, must be listed on the emergency contact form or be approved in writing by a parent. The center reserves the right to not allow any individual onto WMG property for drop-off or pick-up if they have created a problem. Anyone not recognized by sight will be asked for a picture ID. In the event anyone out of the ordinary is to pick-up the child, please alert the office prior to that time. This is in addition to them being on the emergency contact form or approval as stated above. It is the parent's responsibility to notify the office and make changes on this form whenever necessary. Watch Me Grow wants to make sure your children are transported safely. When a parent/guardian transports a child under the influence of alcohol or drugs or fails to use an appropriate car seat, it creates an unsafe transportation situation for the children. If the director or manager on duty deems a child cannot be safely transported, the director or manager on duty will ask the parent not to transport the child and will propose the alternatives listed below.
- Watch Me Grow will call someone to pick up the child from the list of authorized pick-ups.
- Watch Me Grow will call a ride service to pick up the parent and child only if the appropriate safety seat is available. The parent will pay the fare.
- If the parent has failed to bring an appropriate car seat for the child, Watch Me Grow will tell the parent to drive home without the child and return with an appropriate car seat installed in the car.
Please do not allow your child to run outside ahead of you when you are leaving the center.
Safe School Notice
Smoking is not permitted on the premises by staff or parents. Our policy is to employ a work force free from alcohol abuse or the use of illegal drugs. The center is a weapon free zone. Violators will be prosecuted.
Emergency Contacts
All persons authorized to pick a child up from the center must be listed on the emergency contact portion of the registration form. To avoid confusion, it is the responsibility of the parent signing the child into our center to properly fill out all forms. In a custody situation the parent signing the child into our center takes full responsibility to ensure that this is in accordance with their specific court agreement, which must be attached to the enrollment forms if any limitation of rights is suggested by the emergency contact portion of the registration form. If a parent who is not listed, or who believes the information given to us was inaccurate, contests the authorization details, they must first offer proof that they are indeed the legal parent or guardian and have legal rights to pick the child up. We then will require lawyers for both sides to be contacted and both attorneys will be requested to give us documentation as to the individuals approved for pick-up. The center reserves the right to not allow any individual onto our property for drop-off or pick-up if they have created a problem.
Information Change
Parents are to notify the center of any change in home or work phone numbers and addresses. This is for you and your child's safety so that we may reach you in an emergency. The center requires that someone listed on the emergency contact form of each child be available within thirty (30) minutes notice to come and pick up a sick child or a child that WMG has determined needs to go home. It is required that all changes of phone numbers, places of employment, residence changes or changes in pick-up information be turned into the office immediately. Please give the Director written notice of the change as soon as possible.
Our Staff
We strive to provide nurturing, quality care in a highly interactive learning environment. Our friendly qualified staff are an integral part of providing this environment. Our current staff has had;
- A detailed interview and screening process.
- Approval by the state of Nevada through a background analysis that cross references state and federal criminal records as well as child abuse reporting records to ensure that each employee has a background that is clear.
- State CPR and first aid requirements fulfilled.
We believe firmly in training and continued education for all our employees and staff. Each has qualified themselves to work with your children by attending specific training classes and often college level courses to learn about early education and the needs of children. We emphasize training and encourage all of our employees to exceed the state minimum number of clock hours of training required to be qualified to continue to work in an early education setting.
Curriculum
Watch Me Grow utilizes the Learning Beyond Paper for all age groups. The goals of our curriculum are multi- faceted. Our goals encourage children to be enthusiastic, self-confident, and independent learners. Our curriculum respects individual learning styles and ever-changing interests. Through our curriculum we promote growth in all areas of development including:
-
Social: to help children learn from adults and one another by observation, imitation and interaction
-
Emotional: to provide a safe and secure environment where children can develop pride, self-confidence, independence, self-control, and a positive attitude toward life.
-
Cognitive: to promote curiosity and to help children acquire learning skills, such as the abilities to solve problems, ask questions, express their ideas, observations, and feelings.
-
Physical: to help children develop and enhance their small and large muscle skills and feel confident and comfortable with their own bodies.
-
Language: to help children create a foundation for reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Our curriculum goals are achieved through theme-based activities and conversations with adults and children. The manner in which the environment is organized, and the process of the daily schedule augment our goals.
Opportunities exist within the classroom for the child to engage in one-on-one activities with the teacher, small group/large group activities, solitary and independent play. Whole group activities are shorter periods of time and suited to the age/ability of the children. Supervised free play and small groups predominate as a means of encouraging educational interaction. Our "child-friendly" classrooms are arranged into distinct interest learning areas. These classroom areas allow the children to make clear choices as they proceed through their day. Teachers make a wide variety of learning materials available to the children and change them frequently to assure that the children are continually challenged and stimulated in their learning and thinking. The opportunity to learn about other cultures. Outdoor environments have space for riding wheeled toys, climbing equipment, grassy areas for running, quiet spots for daydreaming and conversations. Playgrounds are equipped with outdoor equipment to be brought outside that includes balls, jump ropes, bean bags, hula-hoops, etc. Weekly lesson plans include an outdoor activity. With safety a major concern, we have fenced in the entire playground area and have provided toddlers a separate play area with appropriately equipment.
Screening & Assessment
Watch Me Grow will provide an assessment of each child which is individualized utilizing several techniques which may include anecdotal notes, observations by the teacher, and conferences with the children through portfolios. The purpose of assessment, evaluation and screening at Watch Me Grow is to improve educational quality and supporting long-term achievement for our children. This will include observing the children's behavior, knowing individual children, their families, and their community. Assessments will monitor the children's ongoing development (including sensory, cognitive, gross motor, fine motor, social-emotional and language) then using the information gathered staff plan educational activities that are at a level the child can understand and is able to learn from.
Daily Schedule
Although your child's schedule varies somewhat day to day, a typical flow of a day's activities is below.
-
Activity Time: Activities specific to the weekly theme are presented along with basic activities such as puzzles, table manipulative, dramatic play, blocks, etc.
-
Group Time: Group times are child-centered participative sessions. The planned group activities include reading, music, movement, finger plays, discussion, dramatization, games, and storytelling.
-
Outdoor time: The playground is an extension of the classroom. Children can participate in an activity of their own choosing. Inclement weather, special events, or celebrations will occasionally affect the scheduling of outdoor time.
-
Snacks and Mealtime: Staff sits with children while they are eating, encouraging, and participating in quiet conversation.
-
Rest Time: Children are given the opportunity to nap or rest each day.
Specific activities vary based on age, all are posted weekly in each room
Quiet Time/Napping Routines
It is our philosophy that children under 5 years of age need adequate quiet time and/or rest, as a part of their daily routine. Since all the children are constantly engaged in stimulating activity, we require that everyone rest on cots after lunch. Realizing each child's rest needs are different, we try to offer alternative ways of resting by providing soft music, stories, etc. for those who choose not to sleep.
Infants' individual schedules will determine when they nap. Infants are always put to sleep using current American Academy of Pediatrics' guidelines for infant sleep safety and SIDS risk reduction. Infant safe sleep practices are as follows:
- All infants will be placed on their back to sleep on a flat, firm mattress with tight fitting sheets, and the following items are prohibited within the crib:
- Soft toys
- Blankets
- Bumpers
- Pillows/boppies
- Swaddling
- Earrings, necklaces, or jewelry of any kind
- Bibs
- Strings or attachments to pacifiers
Student to Teacher Ratios
Student to teacher ratios are based upon guidelines set by Nevada law and NECPA accreditation standards. These standards always ensure continuous supervision of children. Children are never left unattended and are always in the sight and sound of teachers. There will always be at least two staff members present during operating hours to ensure safety and supervision.
Class Divisions and Class Size
WMG endeavors to have a challenging and appropriate atmosphere for children of all ages. Class divisions are based upon the individual developmental needs of each child, state set student to teacher ratios, and the overall enrollment management plan of the center. Children not yet in school are generally divided into classes by age since this usually keeps them with children in their own developmental level and keeps our age-based student to teacher ratios easy to calculate. In most cases it is our target to have children together with the children with whom they will be attending Kindergarten.
Transition Plan
Watch Me Grow will create an individualized transition plan to help children who are about to transition from one class to the next. This is to help the children become familiar with the new program, teachers, and children. It also allows the new teachers to get to know the individual needs of each child prior to the transition of an entire class group or several children together. The plan allows flexibility for us to best meet the needs of each child. Each child's individual need is different therefore the transition plan may vary quite a bit from child to child. Your child's teacher or the director will provide more details about transitioning when your child will move to another classroom.
Staff and Client Relationships
WMG considers it inappropriate for parents and clients to solicit our staff to work for them either in their business or homes. We are not legally or financially liable for our employees or any of their actions when they are off the clock or no longer employed by WMG. All employees have signed a statement saying that they will not engage in "care for hire" or any employment by or for any past or current client family of WMG while currently employed by WMG or for eighteen (18) months after their last day of employment. An employee who violates this policy has violated their employment agreement and is subject to possible termination. It is inappropriate for a client or parent to solicit any employee for any type of work. Clients who violate this policy may be subject to termination of services.
Written Communication
The success of our program is based on establishing a partnership between our parents and our staff. Open and frequent communication will help your child have a positive early learning experience. We will endeavor to keep you informed concerning your child's day and overall development through several written means.
-
Monthly parent newsletters to keep you informed as to the overall program.
-
Parent Board - updated with current information about WATCH ME GROW and curriculum.
-
Daily written communication in the form of "Daily Report" forms (infant classroom), and classroom memos placed in the child's "cubby" from time to time.
-
Kidreports- electronic communication that provides real time updates that may include photos, short video clips, meals, diaper/toileting, accident/incident reports, and any items the child may need for the classroom.
-
Parent/Teacher meetings twice each year in April and November. A parent can request. a meeting at any time.
-
Parents always have the option of requesting specific parent/teacher interaction to aid in the child's development.
Accident/Incident Reports
Safety is a top priority of WMG. There are times when a child will have an accident/ incident between your child and another child. If the accident/incident requires "more than a hug", our teachers will complete a report via Kidreports for you detailing what happened and the nature of the injuries. If any first aid is administered, the treatment will be described to you. A copy of this accident/incident report will be sent through Kidreports via email. This system is aimed at ensuring communication at all levels and can be a very good way to be certain little things are not forgotten in a hasty departure. If your child happens to be injured by another child, we ask you to please respect the child's privacy by not asking us to reveal the name of the child. It not only puts our staff in an awkward situation but could cause a confrontation between our families. We will handle any and all behavior problems in a professional and appropriate way.
Positive Guidance
We believe that children need limits to feel secure about themselves and their environment. The purpose of positive guidance is to help children learn acceptable behavior and develop self-control. The basis for our Positive Guidance/Behavior Management Policy is an organized classroom and prepared staff members. At Watch Me Grow we strive to develop a positive relationship between the teacher and the child. Upon enrollment children and families will have a discussion on the classroom/playground rules and expectations to ensure classroom safety. The classrooms will have visual representation posted at the child's eye level for review. We also believe that if an interesting and challenging program is offered to the child, then behavior problems are at a minimum. During stages of development there are many periods which take great patience and require an understanding of developmentally appropriate behavior. Here at Watch Me Grow behavioral expectations are made clear to children and their families. These expectations are reinforced in a firm, yet positive and loving manner by all staff. It is important that reasonable limits are set that are age appropriate for each child. At no time will a teacher resort to corporal/physical or verbal abuse and/or punishment of a child. Anytime a child physically injures another child, an incident report will be filled out by the teacher in charge at the time the incident occurred. Parents will be notified of the incident by Kidreports or phone. Positive reinforcement and redirection of the children will be the first resort to correct any inappropriate behavior. A parent conference maybe requested if inappropriate behaviors or repeated injuries to others occur.
Verbal Communication
We will endeavor to be communicative during drop-off and pick-up times. However, this is not a good time for extended conversations since the staff members/teachers have responsibilities for all the children in the group. Furthermore, the person caring for your child at the pick-up time may not be the individual who has spent most of the day with your child. Many children spend 10 hours a day at the center and most of our employees only work 6-8 hours. Since children learn best in the morning, we schedule the teachers who are responsible for most of the classroom development for the earlier hours and the majority of the day. We suggest that you go to your child's "lead" or "primary" teacher to obtain detailed information on your child's general growth and development. You can call to see how your child's day is going or to speak to your child's teacher for more detailed conversation. The best time to call and speak to your child's teacher is during naptime (during the hours of 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.). There is always a member of management available for you to talk to in person or on the phone. You may also use the Suggestion box to leave information for Management, or you can e-mail us through our web site center at watchmegrowlv.com

Visiting The Center
You are welcome to visit your child at the center at any time. We do ask that you check in with the office or sign-in desk before going to your child's room. It is the responsibility of each employee to make sure any visitor for a child or employee has checked in with the office. If you are coming to eat lunch with your child, please let us know in advance. Persons not listed on the "emergency contact" form, will not be allowed to visit your child. In a custody situation, please note that the same procedure will be followed as listed in the Pick-Up section. Parents are encouraged to pre-arrange opportunities to share lunch with their child or visit the class. Extended family members such as grandparents and aunts are also welcomed to visit in certain pre-arranged situations. The custody challenges of our current society demand that we follow strict guidelines in this regard. Feel free to contact a member of the management team if you wish to set up a "visit" from an extended family member. Any parent/guardian wanting to volunteer on a regular basis must complete a background check and have a negative TB
test.
Parents Who Cannot Participate In Special Events
In the event that a parent feels like they would like to be more involved in the center but cannot due to their work schedule, or due to other conflicts, we will help them find a project or area which they can do on their own time. A member of the leadership staff will meet with the parent to find their area of interest. We will offer suggestions to them based on their interests and time. For example, if the parent likes to sew, we may offer to have them make doll clothes or repair mat sheets.

Watch Me Grow is an equal opportunity employer and will further ensure that the classroom are safe and do not discriminate based upon Race, Color, National Origin, Family Structure, Religion, Sex, Gender Identity (including gender expression), Sexual Orientation, Disability, Age, ETC
Importance of Arrival
Morning is the optimal time for learning in a classroom for young children, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In order to maximize your child's learning experience, and ensure that they are ready for the day, you are encouraged to bring your child no later than 8:30 a.m. School age children will have breakfast prior to leaving for school. Breakfast for all other students is served between 8:00am-9:00am. Lesson plan activities begin at 9:00a.m. Any parents planning to drop off their child after 11:00am will need to speak with a member of management prior to drop off. This ensures ample time for the child to transition into the classroom routine, be included in our count to receive lunch, and prepare for quiet/rest time. It is difficult for children to transition into the classroom right before quiet/rest time.
Meals and Snacks:
Watch Me Grow offers healthy meals to all enrolled children as part of our participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CACFP provides reimbursements for healthy meals and snacks served to children enrolled at Watch Me Grow. Our meal and snack service consists of a breakfast, a hot lunch, and a PM snack. Breakfast will be served to school age children before they leave for school, for all other students' breakfast is between 8:00am and 9:00am. Lunch is served between 11:00am to 12:00pm and snack from 2:30 to 4:30 as many school age children do not return to our care until 3:45pm. Each child will be encouraged to eat what is prepared and to try new items as introduced. Please alert our staff of any food allergies or food restrictions.
Children's Birthdays
Birthdays are special days for children. If you wish to celebrate your child's birthday, please make early arrangements with your child's teacher. Hard or chewy candy and balloons are not permitted because they pose a choking risk. (See "Bringing Food from Home" for more specifics concerning food snacks brought for parties or to celebrate a child's birthday)
Bringing Food From Home
To ensure that the children are eating safe food, the following guidelines will be met. 1) Perishable food brought from home should be contained so as to avoid contamination. 2) Food brought from home should be labeled and dated and must be placed in a container to maintain appropriate temperatures to avoid spoilage and to ensure the children's safety. 3) Prepackaged snacks may be brought from home for birthdays and parties that do not meet nutritional guidelines. (Please notify the child's teacher prior to bringing special treats.)
Food For Infants and Crawlers
Parents may choose to utilize formula, milk or baby food provided by WMG or they may choose to provide their own. The Infant room is equipped with crock pots and refrigerators. All bottles are required to have a sticker with the child's name and the date the bottle was made including breast milk (Please clearly identify all breast milk). Please be certain to inform staff in the classroom the type of formula your child is using, and any other facts regarding diet. Do not bring open baby food jars - Licensing requirements restrict us from serving prepared baby food from previously opened jars. Any unused baby food will be sent home or thrown away each evening. Watch Me Grow has an open-door policy for mothers who choose to breast feed their child at the center. Parents are invited to utilize the infant classroom or if more privacy is wanted, the staff lounge will be made readily available.
Toys From Home (personal belongings)
WMG has a wide variety of toys, games, and other resources to offer children during center time. Preschool classes will have show and tell related to the week's lesson. Personal toys are not permitted in the center, as they can cause disputes and can be broken or lost. The exception to this is show-and-tell which should be labeled with the child's name. WATCH ME GROW is not responsible for stolen, lost or broken toys or clothing.
Do not bring toy guns, war toys or other toys of destruction.
Clothing (personal belongings)
We encourage the children to dress for play and comfort as the seasons change. Dress your children in comfortable clothing suitable for both indoor and outdoor play. Children should be able to manage their own clothing with minimum assistance. All shoes need to have soles and backs (no flip flops or slippers). All possessions must be clearly labeled with your child's name. We are not responsible for lost items.
Because our program is based on play and exploration your child WILL get dirty!! Children will have opportunities for outdoor play twice a day weather permitting. Children will go outside if the temperature is above 32 degrees or below 105 degrees with the wind chill and heat index taken into consideration. It is required that you bring one set of weather appropriate extra clothes for your child in case of a spill or accident. We have some extra clothes available, but we may not have the item your child needs in his/her size. If your child comes home in center clothes, please wash the clothes and return them within two days. It is strongly suggested that all clothing brought or worn to the center have the child's name on it.
Diaper changing/Toilet Training
Parents will provide diapers, wipes and if necessary, diaper ointment for their children daily. Watch Me Grow Staff will follow the diaper changing protocol outlined by the CDC. Diaper Changing procedures are posted at every diaper changing station in the classrooms. Staff will change diapers as soon as the diaper is soiled. At minimum Staff will change diapers in the infant room every hour and in the toddler rooms at minimum every 2 hours unless requested more frequently by parents. Cloth diapers will only be used if there is a documented, medical need. Toilet training is best accomplished with the cooperation of teachers, parents, and children. Children learn toileting skills through consistent positive encouragement from adults at home and at the center. Toilet Training usually begins around 2 years of age. When a child shows an interest in toilet training, staff and parents should work together to support the child in learning the skills necessary to be successful at using the potty. Each child will begin at a different time and progress at a different rate. The staff will provide documentation of your child's progress each day. The director and staff are available as a resource to answer any questions about your child's toilet training progress. Several complete changes of clothes should be kept at the center during this process.
Illness and Continued Health
In order to provide a safe and healthy environment we rely on our parents to monitor their children with these guidelines in mind. Outdoor play is essential to your child's development. We feel that if your child is too sick to play outdoors then they are too sick for group care. A child that is ill or has a temperature of 100.0 degrees or above should be kept at home. All children shall have direct contact with a staff member upon arrival for early detection of apparent illness, communicable disease, or unusual condition or behavior. A child who exhibits any signs or symptoms of illness will be removed from the classroom and shall be supervised and cared for in the front office until the child can be picked up.
The child will be sent home if he/she is running a temperature of over 100.0 degrees, if he/she is vomiting or has diarrhea, a rash or if it is suspected that he/she has a contagious disease (i.e. pink eye, or head lice etc.). Children must be free of diarrhea, vomiting, fever, or any other signs of illness for 24 hours without the use of any medication to treat the symptoms (i.e. fever reducers or anti-diarrheal) before returning to the center. Upon return if the child is still exhibiting a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting the child will be sent home again and must have a Doctor's note to return. Children who have a rash or suspected disease must have a Doctor's note to be readmitted to the center. There are several communicable diseases that if diagnosed by a medical professional would require WMG to report the disease to the CDC, SNHD, and Nevada Child Care licensing. WMG has a list of reportable communicable diseases in the director's office to ensure proper reporting.
If you are called to come pick up an ill child, you must pick your child up within 30 minutes. If a child needs to be sent home and their parents are unreachable, we will call the emergency contacts listed on the registration form. The center reserves the right to request the child to see a physician or have a physician's note prior to returning.
Seasonal and Pandemic Flu
Symptoms of influenza include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are also common in children with the flu. Flu is spread from person to person through coughs and sneezes and indirectly through contaminated objects. For this reason, it is very important to isolate children with flu symptoms and have their parents or guardians pick them up as soon as possible. During a flu outbreak/pandemic, we will closely follow guidance from the CDC, as well as state and local officials and health authorities, as we take extreme care to maintain a safe, healthy school environment for children, families, and staff. Enhanced health protocols will include, but not limited to:
-
Protective Masks: protective face coverings would be provided for all staff members to wear when working at school with children.
-
Taking Temperatures: All staff members and children will be screened upon arrival at school to check for raised temperatures or evident symptoms. If symptoms are present, they will not be admitted.
-
Limited Classroom Access: To curb the spread of germs and control group size, we are having parents and family members remain in common areas of the center only. Staff members will escort all children to and from their classrooms.
-
Wellness Checks: Regular wellness checks will be conducted throughout the day. If a child is exhibiting signs and symptoms, the child will be removed from the classroom and cared for in the office. Parents will be notified immediately to pick up their child(ren).
-
Safe (and Still Healthy) Dining: Family-style dining will be eliminated, and children's meals will be served pre-plated (or teacher-plated).
-
Enhanced Health Practices: We will strengthen our existing cleanliness and hygiene practices (including more frequent, longer hand washing; cleaning and sanitizing surfaces and items in classrooms).
-
Social distancing Practices: We will limit classroom sizes and will ensure that classrooms would not combine. Children would be in the same classroom with the same teachers daily.
Any child or staff member that has a confirmed case of seasonal or pandemic flu would be reported to SNHD, Nevada Child Care Licensing and CDC. Watch Me Grow will follow guidance from the above-mentioned health authorities if center closure is necessary.
Prevention Protocols for Communicable Diseases
Watch Me Grow implements many protocols aimed at the prevention of communicable diseases. Some of these protocols include:
-
Staff training on how to identify signs and symptoms of illness.
-
Proper cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting practices. WMG follows all sanitization guidelines outlined by the CDC, SNHD, and Nevada Child Care Licensing
- Proper handwashing for children and staff
- Notification to parents of any illnesses present to help parents
identify symptoms to fuller limit the spread of communicable disease
- Daily Health Checks
- Excluding ill children and/or staff members
Hand Washing
Germs can spread easily in childcare facilities. Children are curious, they touch and hold things that catch their attention and they play with other children and share toys. Therefore, germs can easily move from one person to the next.
Hand washing is vitally important for both children and staff at the center. It is essentially the first line of defense against the spread of germs. With proper hand washing, you can help prevent the spread of illnesses like the common cold, the flu, pink eye, intestinal infections, and more.
The following are just a few of the times when hand washing should occur:
- When arriving at childcare for the day
- Anytime you enter into the classroom.
- After toileting or diapering
- Before and after eating
- Before food preparation or food handling
- After assisting with or blowing your nose/sneezing
- After touching an animal
- When coming in from being outdoors
- After cleaning
Pets
Animals can be entertaining and educational. Children, especially children under the age of 5, are more likely to get sick from allergies or germs animals can sometimes carry. Young children can also cause unnecessary stress on animals making their behavior unpredictable. For these reasons Watch Me Grow will only allow fish as classroom pets.
Watch Me Grow will follow the guideline provided by the Southern Nevada Heath District for fishbowls and aquariums.
Watch Me Grow does not allow parents and guardians to bring their pets into the center, this includes pick up drop off or show and share opportunities.
Child Abuse Reporting
The State of Nevada requires that WMG and all members of childcare institutions be on the lookout for, and report to the State and appropriate authorities any and all suspected cases of abuse to a child.
At WMG our center and staff are mandatory reporters of Child Abuse. Staff receive training on recognizing and reporting abuse and neglect at the time of orientation and throughout their tenure at Watch Me Grow. All incidents or suspected incidents where there is reasonable cause to believe that child abuse, neglect or exploitation has occurred, must be turned over directly to the Child Protective Services for investigation. We are not allowed to do our own investigation and are required by law to report anything of a suspicious nature. It is advised that clients make the staff aware of any lingering bruising or other visible injury to minimize suspicion of possible child abuse or endangerment.
Emergency Procedures
Emergency Medical Consent Form
This form will give us your consent to call an ambulance or your child's doctor or dentist if he/she needs emergency care. Please list your child's doctor, dentist, and the hospital you would prefer. Also, please list phone numbers, addresses, and additional emergency numbers of contacts. It is strongly suggested that all emergency contacts be listed on your registration form. If your child has any allergies or is on any medications, please include this information on the form as well. Immunization cards need to be presented on or before the first day the child attends the center. A photocopy of these will be kept on file. When your child receives additional immunizations, you are required to bring your immunization card back in for us to take a current photocopy of it so that we can update your file. Whenever any information changes - it is your responsibility to notify us and up-date or re-do this form.
Emergency Situations
In the event of an emergency situation, Watch Me Grow has an outlined emergency response plan (Emergency Response Manual) which will be discussed with you during your child's orientation.
The purpose Watch Me Grow Emergency Response Manual is to identify and respond to incidents by outlining the responsibilities and duties of the center, its employees, and the students. Developing, maintaining, training, and exercising the plan empowers everyone involved in an incident to act quickly and knowledgably. In addition, the plan educates staff, students, and parents/guardians on their roles and responsibilities before, during, and after an incident. This plan provides assurances that Watch Me Grow Child Development Center have established guidelines and procedures to respond to threats and hazards in an effective way.
Fire drills are conducted monthly and disaster drills are done quarterly. The disaster drills include severe weather, shelter-in-place, and building evacuations/lockdowns. Drills are practiced routinely so that in the event of an emergency situation, the children are not as alarmed due to their awareness of the procedures.
The center is equipped with a fire alarm system and fire extinguishers in each room. All teachers are trained in first aid and C.P.R. If an emergency situation develops and it is determined that the building or premises is unsafe, the children will be transported to Bruner Elementary School, 4289 Allen Lane, North Las Vegas, NV 89032, (702) 799-0632 or our secondary site, Silver Mesa Recreation Center 4025 Allen Ln, North Las Vegas, NV 89032, (702) 633-2550 until relatives can be notified. Every effort will be made to contact you as soon as the children and staff are safe. If we cannot reach you, we will contact your alternate emergency contact. Children will only be released to you or your alternate emergency contact during times of emergency.
Medical/Dental Emergencies
Watch Me Grow staff are trained in First aid/CPR. In the event of any minor medical or dental injuries, WMG staff will administer basic first aid. (An accident/incident report will be completed via Kidreports) If needed for major medical emergencies, the Director or Manager on duty will contact 911 for medical assistance. If the paramedics take a child to the emergency room, the Director or Manager on Duty will accompany the child and remain with the child until the parent/guardian arrives. If a major dental emergency occurs, Watch Me Grow will notify the family immediately, if the family does not have a family dentist, WMG staff will assist the family to find a licensed provider for emergency care.
Mental Health Emergencies
A mental health crisis is just as important to address as any other health care crisis. It can be difficult to predict just when a crisis will happen, and it can occur without warning. We all do the best we can with the information and resources we have available at the time of a crisis. It is important to understand what can cause a crisis, the warning signs of a crisis, the strategies to help de-escalate a crisis. If it is determined that further care is needed, WMG management will notify the parent immediately and call Children's Mobile Crisis Response Team for assistance.
Crisis Situations
Each facility should have a plan in place for responding to any death relevant to children enrolled in the facility and their families. The plan helps to address and handle unforeseen crises or bereavements that may threaten the mental health of staff or children and families, such as the death or the serious illness of a child or staff. In the event of an unforeseen crises, Watch Me Grow staff will follow the steps outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Manual which includes using Early Childhood Mental Health Services as well as Children's Mobile Crisis Response Team for further guidance.
Attendance and Accounting
Watch Me Grow has developed a roll call/attendance process to ensure that all children are accounted for throughout the day including but not limited to times of transition to and from the classroom for drills and in the event of an emergency. The policy ensures a face to name verification of all children. Upon completion of the roll call/attendance procedure a teacher recognizes that a child is not accounted for Watch Me Grow would follow the procedure outlined in the Emergency Response Handbook for a Missing Child, Watch Me Grow will call 911 immediately, staff will continuously search the facility (inside and out). If on a field trip, staff will ask safety personnel at the location to aid in the search. The Director will immediately notify parents of missing child and inform parents of the situation and the steps taken. The Director will report incident to Nevada Child Care Licensing and Child Protective Services.
Classifications
Due to strict licensing guidelines and safety issues we require that all individuals on our property be categorized as one of the following:
- 1. A scheduled employee during the regular course of their workday
- 2. A Child who is in our care (all paperwork has been filled-out)
- 3. Parents or others during regular drop-off or pick-up (This to be approximately fifteen (15) minutes)
- 4. Delivery personnel - From a regular or expected company delivering items to the center (should always be in eyesight of an employee and arriving at an expected time)
- 5. Visitors - Must be approved by the office and should always be accompanied by an employee.
- 6. An Intruder - Action will be taken by the staff to notify the proper authorities
Intruders
From time to time, schools and childcares have been faced with the threat of unauthorized individuals entering the facility. An intruder is defined as any unauthorized individual who, through act or deed, poses a perceived threat to the safety and welfare of children and employees. To minimize the access of unauthorized persons in the facility, WMG has a locked security door that can only be accessed by parents or staff members. The office always has one manager posted at the front desk monitoring people entering and exiting the facility. All exterior gates are locked. We have cameras monitoring classrooms, playgrounds, and the parking lot. Staff are trained on the WMG Emergency Response Handbook which includes building lockdown and lockout procedures. Children will participate in building lockdown/lockout drills.
